How to build an affiliate website

Plan pages, build a small static site and keep its claims useful. Four free lessons turn an idea into artifacts you can inspect.

4 lessons available

Your outcome

A distinct page map, one researched page brief, a locally checked static reference and a one-claim maintenance record. Each lesson gives you a concrete handoff to the next.

A starting sequence with four available lessons. Real recommendations and a search-ready launch need further checks; deeper growth topics remain in development.

On this path

Four lessons, four useful artifacts

Start with a reader's decision. Then turn your research into a page brief and a small working site, then practice maintaining its claims. Use this sequence to avoid handing an AI coding tool a vague request to make an affiliate website.

  1. Plan

Map distinct reader questions and the evidence you can add.

  2. Brief

Specify one useful page, its links and its launch checks.

  3. Build

Run a static reference, make a controlled change and inspect the result.

  4. Maintain

Audit one claim, update its dependencies and record the review.

Four lessons, four useful artifacts
StepTake awayCheck before moving on
1. Affiliate keyword researchThree starter pages with distinct purposes and evidence requirements.1Can you explain why each page deserves its own URL?
2. SEO for affiliate websitesOne page brief, an internal-link plan and separate search/action measures.2What will help the reader, and what still needs checking?
3. Build with CodexA downloadable Astro reference, a controlled edit and checks you can run locally.3What did the checks prove, and what did they leave untested?
4. Audit and update affiliate contentA one-claim worksheet and executed fictional example that catches stale text and review.4Did every dependent representation and its review change together?

The outcome is a researched plan, a locally checked starting point and a maintenance record. Publishing real recommendations, launching for search and earning commissions require further evidence and decisions.

What to bring

Choose a specific audience and one problem you want to help them solve. Keep a simple worksheet for page ideas, source links and missing evidence. If the business model is new to you, start with affiliate foundations and your first project plan.

You can complete the first two planning exercises without a live site or an approved affiliate account. The building lesson requires working Codex access and Node 24.19.0; its Windows reference uses Astro 7.3.5. The lessons are free, while external tool usage, domains and hosting are separate considerations.1,2,3

A worked handoff: a small patio gardening site

Hypothetical project: help someone choose a raised-bed size and material for a small patio. These are practice decisions, not measured demand or tested product recommendations.

A worked handoff: a small patio gardening site
HandoffWhat you write or buildWhat stays out
Page mapGroup bed-size wording into one space worksheet. Give the materials comparison its own page.A firsthand product review until you have real use evidence.
Page briefOpen with the space decision. Add a measurements table, an explanatory diagram and a link to the materials comparison. Record where dimensions came from.Unsupported claims about patio load capacity, drainage, lifespan or durability.
Coding briefImplement the worksheet and comparison, ordinary links and visible unknown values. Reuse one consistent template.Invented rates, commercial tracking IDs and automatic publication.
Controlled changeChange the practice width, then check the text, table, worksheet and diagram together. Record commands, versions and remaining gaps.Treating a successful build as proof that every representation agrees.

The Codex starter includes a fictional program profile to demonstrate research fields and unknown-value handling. That engineering example does not make publisher enrollment queries part of this consumer patio site's content map. Adapt the reader journey to your actual audience.1,3

Google describes copied merchant descriptions without original value as thin affiliation. Build around a useful contribution you can support: a worksheet, a documented comparison or evidence from real experience.5

Separate a working build from a ready publication

Use this as a handoff checklist. Mark an unavailable check Not checked and a missing fact Unknown.

Separate a working build from a ready publication
Readiness areaEvidence to gather
Reader valueA clear decision, a useful original contribution and sources beside material claims. Distinguish researched facts from firsthand experience.
Program and linksCurrent terms, the correct official destination and any approved owner link. Check conditions and relationship notices before activating commercial links.
Engineering and usabilityTests, generated links and the actual page. Try the reader's main task on a small screen and with a keyboard; inspect text/visual agreement.
Hosting and searchCheck the intended domain, working URLs, crawl/index controls and preferred URLs. Do not remove construction controls just because a build passes.
MeasurementRecord search visibility, your useful visitor actions and reported merchant outcomes separately. Missing sales data remains Unknown.

For static Astro on Cloudflare Pages, the documented build settings are npm run build and output directory dist. The reference lesson's tests are local engineering evidence; they do not establish a hosted deployment, working merchant tracking or revenue for your project.6,3

Google's minimum eligibility requirements include crawler access, an HTTP 200 response and indexable content. Meeting them does not guarantee indexing or rankings. A noindex rule prevents indexing when Google can read it; crawl blocking and indexing control need separate checks. The SEO lesson walks through these distinctions.7,8,2

Your next action

Write a one-page handoff: reader → three-page map → one page brief → one controlled build change → checks still needed. If a step is missing, return to that lesson before requesting more pages from an AI tool.

Self-check: can another person identify the reader, the evidence needed, the next click and what is still untested? Can they tell fictional practice data from publishable recommendations?

Then finish your project plan and schedule claim checks around actual changes and reader needs. The maintenance lesson adds an executed fictional audit, not a real traffic or income experiment.4 Deeper measurement, original product comparisons and additional AI tool workflows remain future topics. These four lessons are a starting sequence, not a completed growth curriculum.
